Fight the bite with these mosquito prevention tips
Mosquitos are a fact of life on the Front Range and their bites can be more than just itchy. They can spread viruses that make you sick, or in rare cases, cause death.
Boulder County Public Health recently issued a West Nile virus alert noting that high mosquito activity has increased the risk of West Nile virus in Boulder County. West Nile virus is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. While most people don’t show symptoms, it can cause serious illness, including fever, headaches, body aches, and in rare cases, swelling of the brain (encephalitis or meningitis).
Remember the Four D's to minimize mosquito bites:
1. Limiting outdoor activities between dusk and dawn
2. Dress in long-sleeved shirts and long pants while outdoors
3. Using insect repellent that contains DEET
4. Drain standing water from around structures
Find out more on the Town of Superior's website.

Protect your home and family with fire safety tips from the Town of Superior & Mountain View Fire
Every year in the United States, thousands of fires are tied to oily rags, flammable liquids, and garage-related hazards, leading to millions of dollars in damage.
While some fires are contained quickly, others result in total home loss. The recent fires in Superior highlight the serious danger of improperly storing oily rags, paints, solvents, and other flammable products, as well as risks linked to batteries and garage appliances.
When not handled properly, these common items can ignite suddenly through spontaneous combustion, electrical sparks, or overheating, causing severe home and property damage. Additionally, these items all require specific disposal methods, so please check with your waste service provider to ensure you’re doing so safely.
For more information, please read this Fire Safety Alert from the Town of Superior's Disaster Preparedness & Recovery team and Mountain View Fire Rescue.
