Sister City Project

Khandbari-Nepal.jpg In 2020, the Town Board approved a policy for entering into Sister City relationships, which provides an opportunity to learn about other communities and promotes international goodwill. With approval of the policy, the Town became a member of Sister Cities International, which is an American nonprofit organization founded by President Eisenhower in 1956 to advocate for peace and prosperity by fostering bonds among people around the world.

A Sister City relationship was then established on Feb. 8, 2021, between Superior, Colorado and Khandbari, Nepal, to share resources, exchange cultural ideas, and to express the beauty of both locations.

Since that time, the Sister City committee has promoted the Sister City relationship through a number of entertaining events like A Taste of Nepal, Day of the Dog, and the Superior Holiday Bazaar along with artifact exhibits and the elementary school pen-pal program. A delegation from Nepal came to visit Superior in September 2022, learning about our government, infrastructure, and Town events (like the Chili Fest, which they attended). Then in November 2022, the first Superior Sister City delegation ventured halfway across the globe to visit Khandbari to learn more about their municipality, culture and day-to-day life firsthand.

The Sister City relationship between Superior and Khandbari continues to flourish, and we look forward to many more years of learning and growing together.
