Hi Superior,

Summer in Superior is right around the corner—and with it comes two of our most popular events that are quickly becoming community traditions: the Summer Market and the Summer Concert Series.

The Superior Summer Market returns to Downtown Superior starting May 20 and runs one Wednesday each month through September, with a special fall finale in October. Expect fresh produce, local meats, baked goods, artisan products, and live music in a fun, family-friendly setting.

Summer Market Lineup:

  • May 20 — John McKay Band
  • June 17 — Aaron Rose Country
  • July 15 — Dechen Hawk
  • Aug. 19 — Al's Hwy 50
  • Sept. 16 — Ultralowfi

Fall Fest & Superior Mural Festival (New event this year!):

  • Oct. 4 — Carlos & The Crew and Drunken Hearts

On alternating weekends, the Summer Concert Series brings the community together at the Superior Commons Amphitheater. Held on the second and fourth Saturdays from June through August, these free concerts feature a great mix of bands, along with food trucks and local beer—perfect for a relaxed summer evening.

Summer Concert Series Lineup:

  • June 13 — Bill McKay Band
  • June 27 — That 80s Band
  • July 11 — High Lonesome
  • July 25 — Soul School
  • Aug. 8 — The Long Run
  • Aug. 15 — Steely Dead

Whether you’re grabbing dinner at the market or spreading out a blanket for live music, these events are a great reminder of what makes Superior special—community, connection, and summer nights done right.

Respectfully,
Mayor Mark Lacis

Town asks residents to use water wisely this spring

Keep sprinklers off text overlaying an image of a sprinkler that's off.

Colorado is experiencing extreme drought conditions, and it's crucial to do our part and use our water wisely.

Fortunately, as a Town, we have a strong water portfolio and are no longer projecting a water shortage for this year. Because of this, we are lifting the voluntary water restrictions.

However, other municipalities are not as fortunate, and we should do our part to conserve water. The ongoing drought, low snowpack, and warm temperatures are putting a strain on available water in Colorado. Your water usage plays a meaningful role in preserving our shared resources and maintaining system reliability.

To reduce water waste and keep landscapes healthy, please consider the following practices:

1. Water early in the morning (before 10 a.m.) or in the evening (after 6 p.m.) to minimize evaporation.

2. Adjust sprinkler heads to ensure water lands on landscaping, not pavement.

3. Use cycle-and-soak methods (shorter, repeated watering cycles) to allow water to absorb into the soil.

4. Water only when needed; lawns typically require about 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week, including rainfall.

  • Lawns need less water in the spring and fall
  • During warm summer months, water lawns 2-3 times per week

5. Install smart controllers or rain sensors to adjust watering schedules automatically.

The Town has programs to help, including free sprinkler audits through Resource Central and a rebates on smart controllers and drip irrigation for your yard. Visit the Town’s water conservation page to learn more.

By taking simple steps to improve irrigation efficiency, each household can help conserve thousands of gallons of water over the course of the season. These voluntary measures support the long-term sustainability of Superior’s water system and help ensure adequate supply for essential needs.

You can find more information about water conservation in this article prepared by the Town of Superior.

We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to responsible water use.

Public Works and Utilities

Rock Creek Parkway construction underway

Aerial image of Rock Creek Parkway

Rock Creek Parkway construction started in April and will continue through October.

Work includes full reconstruction of the roadway, curb and gutter improvements, upgraded sidewalks, and enhanced bike and pedestrian facilities. A single-lane roundabout will be installed at the intersection of Rock Creek Parkway and Coal Creek Drive. The roundabout at 88th Street and Rock Creek Parkway will be reduced to a single-lane roundabout, improving safety for all users.

During construction, there will be temporary lane and road closures with detour routes set up as needed, as well as periodic sidewalk closures.

Please also be aware that the construction on Rock Creek Parkway will affect some 4th of July events, including the Downhill Mile and parade. There will still be plenty of fun for everyone, with an expanded carnival-style 4th of July festival to celebrate our country’s 250th and our state’s 150th birthdays. Stay tuned for all the fun details!

The Town Projects webpage will remain updated to keep you informed as the project progresses.

Town stabilizing unpaved roads in Original Town

Road construction

The Town is stabilizing all unpaved roads in Original Town, including the alleys, 5th Avenue, and portions of Charles and West William streets.

The work includes leveling and compacting the existing surfaces, placing 3 inches of new millings, applying a stabilization treatment and then compacting the new millings with a wet roller. This work results in a hardened asphalt-like surface.

Following treatment, the Town will perform a chip seal on the surface, which is generally applied to roads to improve longevity. Once complete, the roads will have a hard surface that will eliminate dust and can be plowed, with a useful life of five to seven years.

Visit the Town Projects webpage to stay informed.

Concrete repairs and replacement occurring in public right-of-way

Concrete in need of repair in Superior

In April, the Superior Town Council approved a construction agreement for concrete work throughout Superior, the majority of which will occur in the Rock Creek neighborhood.

This project includes repairing and replacing damaged concrete sections, as well as the installation of a new concrete bike ramp entrance to 88th Street near Promenade Drive. Find more information and keep up-to-date on this project by visiting the Town Projects webpage.

Indiana Street reconstruction project kicks off in May

A portion of Indiana Street from North Torreys Peak to McCaslin Boulevard will be reconstructed later this month.

The project includes the full reconstruction of the roadway, curb and gutter improvements, upgraded sidewalks, and enhanced bike and pedestrian facilities.

Construction will start after Memorial Day and be completed before the beginning of the 2026-27 school year to avoid impacting school traffic.

During construction there will be temporary lane and road closures with detour routes set up as needed, as well as periodic sidewalk closures.

Stay informed on the project by visiting the Town Projects webpage.

This free workshop for gardeners of any level will cover the basics of growing plants that thrive in containers and the importance of compost as a soil amendment. There will be informational presentations followed by hands-on planting time to ask questions. Plant an edible plant in a 5-gallon grow bag you can take home. Registration required

Free compost is available at the Town's Yard Waste site

Compost Workshop

Free compost is available now on a first-come, first-served basis at the Town Yard Waste Site, 2125 Honey Creek Lane.

Compost donated by Republic Service, as well as some purchased by the Town, is available to Superior residents to help "close the loop" by giving back the finished product made from food scraps and yard waste collected via curbside composting.

Any Superior resident can stop by the Yard Waste Recycling Facility during open hours (Wednesday after 2 p.m. until dusk and weekends from 8 a.m. until dusk) to receive compost for their yard while supplies last. There is a limited amount of compost available– please be prepared to show identification with a Superior address and bring your own shovels and containers for self-serve scooping.

Compost allows air flow into garden soil, helping the soil to retain moisture longer and providing beneficial bacteria for the plants in your landscape. It also helps supply slow-release nutrients to your plants. You can put compost on in the spring to prepare garden beds for planting or during the growing season.

Boulder County begins new outdoor emergency warning siren testing schedule

Federal signal modulator for new siren upgrade

Boulder County has begun a new year-round monthly testing schedule of its outdoor emergency warning sirens.

These tests will be conducted on the first Monday of the month at 10 a.m. There are two sirens in Town, one located in Superior's Community Park and the other in Original Town on Coal Creek Drive.

If you block, screen messages, or have your phone on silent, consider adding 303-441-1400 as a contact. You can name the contact “Emergency Alert” and enable this number to get through.
