Superior Sentinel: March 2025

Published on March 01, 2025

Hey Superior,

2025 is shaping up to be a busy year for the Town. Here are some of the things our Town Council will be considering in the coming months:

  • Street paving projects on Sycamore, 76th Street, and the Sagamore neighborhood
  • Rock Creek Parkway reconstruction (from Indiana to 88th Street as well as the intersection at McCaslin)
  • North Pool redesign and construction contract
  • Marshall Fire Memorial
  • Comprehensive Plan and Transportation Plan updates

This is in addition to several major projects we’ve already approved earlier this year, including:

  • Coal Creek Pedestrian Bridge and ADA accessible trail in Grasso Park
  • Construction of an Operations & Maintenance Facility for our Public Works & Utilities and Parks, Recreation, and Open Space departments
  • McCaslin Water Main Project
Superior Summer Market Logo on orange background

The Town is also busy planning several amazing events, including our brand new Superior Summer Market in downtown, the Summer Concert Series, as well as our signature 4th of July and Chili & Beer Fest events. And while we’re at it, we’re welcoming lots of new businesses to town as well.

This is just a sample of the many different things we’re working on to keep Superior a great place to live, work, and raise a family. As always, if you’d like to reach us, email towncouncil@superiorcolorado.gov.

Respectfully,
Mayor Mark Lacis

Superior rolls out Three Cart Program & EV trucks with March 15 celebration

Republic Services EV Truck parked in a cul-de-sac

Republic Services EV collection trucks are coming soon to Superior.

The Town's new Three Cart Program with Republic Services begins March 31. Under this new contract, quieter and cleaner electric trucks will handle collections.

Collection trucks drive short distances, travel at slow speeds, and make many stops and starts during a route — all factors that make them ideal for electrification. Superior is fortunate to have access to some of the country's first EV waste collection trucks!

The Town of Superior and Republic Services are hosting a free, family-friendly Touch-A-EV Collection Truck event on Saturday, March 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Superior Community Center (1500 Coalton Road) to celebrate the new service and the EV trucks.

This event, featuring free sweet and savory crepes and hot drinks, is a unique opportunity for kids and adults alike to explore, touch, and climb aboard these state-of-the-art mechanical marvels. Learn how these new trucks generate less noise and pollution when out and about in our community, and help us welcome Republic to Superior!

The Three Cart Program is for residents living in the following neighborhoods: Original Town, Sagamore, The Ridge, Coal Creek Crossing, Downtown Superior, Calmante, Lanterns, Autrey Shores, and Rogers Farm. Other neighborhoods may be added at a later time, but all are welcome at this event regardless of whether or not you are going to be a Republic Services customer.

Ahead of the new service launch on March 31, Republic Services will deliver customers' new bins the week of March 24. Waste Connections will pick up the old bins that same week after their weekly service.

Parking enforcement underway in Downtown Superior

Two-hour parking sign in Downtown Superior

We look forward to your next visit to Downtown Superior! Whether you're shopping, dining, or just enjoying a stroll along Main Street, the downtown area offers free parking at multiple locations.

Please note that on-street limits vary from two hours on Main Street to three hours on adjacent streets. All vehicles must be registered using the QR codes posted on Downtown signs, even if you plan on staying less than the allowed free time. Be sure to read the posted signs or refer to the parking map on our website. The Town is contracting with Parkwell to help manage parking. Parkwell began issuing citations in January.

To help ensure the 1,075 parking spaces in the Downtown Superior (DTS) core area are used efficiently and effectively, the Town has been working with commercial property owners there and the Superior Town Center Metropolitan Districts to implement the DTS parking plan. Studies showed peak parking demand for 1,061 spaces, so parking in DTS may be tight during busy periods but is generally sufficient to meet the needs of this active neighborhood.

Parking restrictions along with two- and three-hour allowed parking times noted above are now in place for many public parking spaces in the core area around Main Street and the parking structures.

Restore your mind and body with new nature and forest therapy program

People relax in the grass during a nature and forest therapy event

Superior's Disaster Preparedness and Recovery team is proud to introduce a new Nature and Forest Therapy program for the community.

The new program kicks off on April 12 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Community Park (1350 Coalton Road). It marks an exciting milestone in the Town's commitment to resilience, recovery, and well-being.

This initiative expands our ability to offer meaningful, nature-based experiences that promote healing and renewal for the body, mind, and spirit.

Find out more and register for the program.

What is nature and forest therapy?

Inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku (forest bathing), Nature and Forest Therapy is the art of immersing oneself in nature to support health, wellness, and overall happiness. Through guided experiences, certified guides invite participants to fully engage their senses, fostering a deep and restorative connection with the natural world. Research has shown that forest therapy can boost immune function, lower blood pressure and stress levels, enhance mood and cognitive focus, increase energy and improve sleep quality.

Each guided walk provides a unique and profound opportunity for both individuals and the land to heal together—and no, this is not a strenuous hike!
