Superior Sentinel: June 2026

Published on June 01, 2026

Hello Superior!

Summer has officially begun, and that can only mean one thing: the pools are open! Superior is incredibly lucky to have two amazing community pools: North Pool (1650 S. Indiana St.) and South Pool (3300 Huron Peak Ave.). Residents swim free with a SplashPass, which can be obtained at the pools, the Superior Community Center (1500 Coalton Road) or renewed online.

Mark your calendar for some fun summer swim events, including Family Night on June 25 and July 23, Teen Night on June 26, and Flick & Float on July 24. And don’t miss out on our second annual Cardboard Boat Regatta on Aug. 2!

If you’re looking for me this summer, you know where to find me: either as the Grillmaster for the Rock Creek Flyers swim meets at North Pool or lounging at the South Pool embarrassing my kids. Enjoy Superior!

Respectfully,
Mayor Mark Lacis

Trailer and RV parking limits in place in Superior

Two white RVs parked in spots on grass

Warmer weather means more trailers and recreational vehicles (RVs) on Superior's streets, which can obstruct visibility, especially at night. This increases the risk of accidents involving pedestrians, joggers, or pets crossing the road.

To ensure everyone's safety, it's important to remember that Town Municipal Code section 8-1-60 limits parking for trailers and RVs to a maximum of 48 hours on public streets.

Questions? Contact Code Enforcement Officer Jammi Hedquist at jammih@superiorcolorado.gov or 720-738-8932.

HSIP grant allows Town to address pedestrian and bicycle safety along 88th Street

88th Street heading toward Louisville

With the help of a federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant, the Town is pursuing permanent pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements along 88th Street from Promenade Drive to Campus Drive.

Although the grant allocates the funds for 2029, the Town is working with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) to advance the project to 2027.

The project will be collaborative, working with the City of Louisville to widen the sidewalk north of U.S. 36 to Campus Drive and with CDOT on the bridge over U.S. 36.

Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

Concrete repair and replacement project underway

Concrete in need of repair in Superior

Crews with CMH Concrete are in the midst of repairing and replacing concrete in the Rock Creek neighborhood, with the work continuing through June.

This project, which will conclude in early July, includes repairing and replacing damaged concrete sections and installing a new concrete bike ramp entrance at 88th Street near Promenade Drive.

Find more information and keep up-to-date on this project by visiting the Town Projects Page.

Original Town alley and roadway stabilization project begins June 1

road work signs

Construction crews will begin the alley and roadway stabilization project in Original Town on June 1, resulting in temporary alley and road closures.

The project will stabilize all unpaved roads in Original Town, including the alleys, 5th Avenue, and portions of West Charles and West William streets.

Alleys will be closed for one or two days during grading and treatment work. Affected residents will be notified by the contractor prior to alley closures.

The work includes leveling and compacting the existing surfaces, placing 3 inches of new millings, applying a stabilization treatment and then compacting the new millings with a wet roller. This work results in a hardened asphalt-like surface.

Following treatment, in late July or early August, the Town will apply a chip seal to the surface, a treatment generally applied to roads to improve longevity. Once complete, the roads will have a hard surface that eliminates dust and can be plowed, with a useful life of five to seven years.

Weather permitting, the project is expected to conclude by early July.

Visit the Town Projects webpage to stay informed.

Rock Creek Parkway construction continues through the summer

Orange detour sign dictating construction on Rock Creek Parkway

Crews are hard at work reconstructing Rock Creek Parkway, with work continuing through October.

The project includes:

  • Full reconstruction of the roadway;
  • Curb and gutter improvements;
  • Upgraded sidewalks;
  • Enhanced bicycle and pedestrian facilities;
  • Installation of a single-lane roundabout at the Rock Creek Parkway and Coal Creek Drive intersection; and
  • Reduction of the 88th Street and Rock Creek Parkway roundabout to a single lane, which improves safety for all users.

Please be aware that during construction, there will be temporary lane and road closures, with detour routes set up as needed, and periodic sidewalk closures.

The Rock Creek Parkway construction project will affect some 4th of July events, including the Downhill Mile and parade. There will still be plenty of fun for everyone, with an expanded carnival-style 4th of July festival to celebrate our country’s 250th and our state’s 150th birthdays. Stay tuned for all the fun details!

The Town Projects webpage will remain updated to keep you informed as the project progresses.
