Hi Superior,
Last November, voters approved a sales tax increase to help fund our parks, pools, and roads. This month, I want to provide an update on where things stand with our pool renovations.
First, we’re focusing on the North Pool and are planning on starting renovations after this summer season. We anticipate moving forward with awarding a design and construction contract in June, which will allow construction to move forward after the summer swim season and allow the pool to reopen on time next May.
We’ve been working with our consultants BRS on public engagement and an assessment of the condition of our existing pool facilities. Based on their assessment, the North Pool needs approximately $2 million worth of mechanical equipment upgrades, including: replacing skimmers with a perimeter gutter system, resurfacing the pool interior, replacing underwater lights, providing additional chemical storage and creating a larger mechanical room, replacing heaters, and addressing the wading pool.
The bath house also needs work projected at $1.1 million, including renovations to the bathrooms and locker rooms, adding a year-round accessible single-user restroom, and other upgrades. Site costs, soft costs, and adding amenities brings the total cost of the renovation to approximately $4.5 million.
Stay tuned for Town Council meetings this month for proposed designs and additional information on the North Pool project. This is an exciting time for Superior as we reinvest in our community amenities to ensure that they last us well into the future.
Respectfully,
Mayor Mark Lacis

Learn the ins and outs of roundabout safety
Did you know the Town of Superior has five roundabouts throughout town with a sixth set for construction later this year at the Rock Creek Parkway and Coal Creek Drive intersection?
A roundabout is a circular intersection design where traffic travels at low speed around a central island. Entering traffic must yield to circulating traffic.
Roundabouts are safer and more efficient than traditional intersections if drivers know what to do.
Here are some tips about roundabout safety and an informational video provided by the Colorado Department of Transportation:
- When entering the roundabout, yield to traffic already navigating it.
- When a safe gap is available, merge into roundabout traffic.
- As you travel the roundabout, pay attention to signage and merging vehicles.
- In the roundabout, you are allowed the right-of-way but pay attention to inexperienced roundabout travelers.
- When you reach your desired exit point, signal to alert fellow motorists that you are exiting the roundabout and safely move out of it.
- Pay attention to pedestrians navigating the roundabout, and make note of painted crosswalks and signage.
- Please be patient and respectful of other drivers.

The Town has traditionally offered a Holiday Lighting display at various locations throughout the Town. This coming holiday season, the Town will reduce display locations to focus on Town facilities and properties, and commercial centers. This will eliminate roughly eight locations in the Rock Creek neighborhood, Sagamore neighborhood, and Original Town.
Neighborhoods may install lighting displays of their own or choose to sponsor the cost of displays in their neighborhood by partnering with the Town.

Report graffiti and help us keep our parks beautiful
A few months ago, graffiti was spotted in one of Superior's beautiful parks. Thanks to our Parks team, it was cleaned up quickly!
Please remember that graffiti vandalism, while often perceived as a minor nuisance, can significantly impact the aesthetic appeal and perceived safety of a community.
In Superior, proactive measures are essential to address and prevent graffiti, ensuring the town remains a welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike. Graffiti can lead to decreased property values, deter potential businesses, and foster a sense of neglect. Prompt removal is crucial; studies indicate that eliminating graffiti within 24 to 48 hours can significantly reduce the likelihood of recurrence .
Residents play a vital role in graffiti prevention. Superior offers the Click & Fix platform, enabling community members to report non-emergency issues, including graffiti, 24/7. Submissions can include photos and GPS locations, facilitating swift responses from Town staff.
