Safer pedestrian and cyclist crossing coming to McCaslin Boulevard
In October, the Superior Town Council approved a design contract for the McCaslin Pedestrian Crossing project, which will add a safe pedestrian and bike crossing to McCaslin Boulevard between Rock Creek Parkway and Main Street.
This crossing will connect Vista Ridge to the east to the Oerman-Roche Trailhead and Boulder County Open Space to the west. The project includes a pedestrian-operated traffic control device for bike and pedestrian traffic and an ADA-compliant crossing.

Traffic signal cabinets decorated with Superior art
Traffic signal cabinets at several local intersections were recently decorated with Superior-specific art.
You'll find the upgrades at Marshall Road and Sycamore Street, Rock Creek Parkway and McCaslin Boulevard, and the north and south U.S. 36 and McCaslin Boulevard intersections.
These vinyl wraps not only look great and provide a sense of place but also deter graffiti and help regulate the temperature inside the cabinets which extends the life of the traffic signal equipment.
Keep an eye out for these artistic cabinets as you travel around the Town!

Improvements slated for McCaslin and Marshall intersection
In October, the Superior Town Council approved the contract for the Marshall Road and McCaslin Boulevard Intersection Improvements project. The Economic Development Administration has awarded the Town a $1.2 million grant for this project.
The proposed intersection improvements include adding a third dedicated northbound left-turn lane off Marshall Road and a dedicated eastbound through lane on Marshall Road into Downtown Superior to improve traffic flow and reduce traffic delays. The Downtown Superior Traffic Study identified the need for an additional left-turn lane and a dedicated through lane on Marshall Road.
In addition, pedestrian crossings will be updated to improve safety for all users and the overall operation of the traffic signal.
Design has started, and construction is planned for 2026, pending Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and other agency approvals.
Stay informed on the status of this project by visiting the Town Projects page.

Northern Water moving small amount of water in Chimney Hollow Reservoir
Starting the first week of November, Northern Water will move a small amount of water into Chimney Hollow Reservoir as part of its continued effort to test how uranium minerals leach into water and what concentration to expect when the reservoir fills and its operation begins.
During this time, additional water quality data will be collected and used to evaluate the performance of model simulations to predict uranium concentrations in the reservoir. Required dam safety monitoring will also begin.
Even as the reservoir fills, Northern Water will not release water while conducting further assessments and evaluating mitigation efforts.
Chimney Hollow Reservoir is located just west of Carter Lake in Larimer County and will add 90,000 acre-feet of dedicated storage capacity. Read this press release from Northern Water for more information.

There's still time to apply for 2025 EnergySmart rebates!
The Town of Superior is excited to partner with Boulder County's EnergySmart program to offer our residents home energy and electrification rebates.
You still have time to apply for the 2025 rebates, which can help you save money on improvements like insulation and air sealing, as well as for electric appliances like heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, dryers, and induction cooktops, that will make your home healthier, safer, and more resilient.
The deadline to apply is Jan. 5, 2026.
Please be aware that the EnergySmart rebate program will change in 2026. The most significant change is that EnergySmart will focus exclusively on income-qualified rebates, ensuring taxpayer-funded assistance reaches the households that need it most. However, the income limits in Boulder County are higher than you might expect! For example, a family of four's income can be up to $150,600 to qualify for an income-qualified rebate.
Visit EnergySmart's website for more information on the upcoming changes or give the organization's October 2025 newsletter a read. You can learn about additional Town-sponsored energy efficiency programs on the Town's Energy webpage.

Volunteer Girl Scouts and parents will collect the bags and deliver them to the Town’s Yard Waste Recycling site. A suggested $10 to $20 donation is appreciated to support Girl Scout trips and activities.
Only leaves in compostable leaf bags will be collected. Whether you participate in the Girl Scouts pickup or choose another option,ACES is making paper bags available to all residents. Two free bags are available while supplies last at the Superior Community Center (1500 Coalton Road) and the Superior Civic Space (2250 Main St., Suite 1001).
|
Leaves in paper leaf bags can also be dropped off at the Town’s Yard Waste site (2125 Honey Creek Lane) from 2 p.m. to dusk on Wednesdays or 8 a.m. to dusk on Saturdays and Sundays, or placed directly in your curbside compost cart.

Call in the herd: The goats are back in Superior!
Our favorite fuel mitigation team is back! Goat Bros, Hoof-Action Grazing has returned to provide cool weather grazing services in Superior as part of the Town's wildfire mitigation efforts to reduce fuel loads on open space properties.
You can catch the 300-goat herd grazing in Castle Peak Open Space, about 40 acres just east of Eldorado PK-8. Once grazing is complete in the Castle Peak area, the goats plan to move to Autrey Park (1830 Honey Creek Drive) for the remainder of the winter.

Prepare for cold weather with these winter watering tips
Dry air, low precipitation, little soil moisture, and fluctuating temperatures are characteristics of fall and winter in many areas of Colorado.
Often, there is little or no snow cover to provide soil moisture from October through March. Trees, shrubs, perennials and lawns under these conditions may be damaged if they do not receive supplemental water.
Guidelines for watering in the winter include:
- Water only when air temperatures are above 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Apply water at midday so it will have time to soak in before freezing at night.
- Monitor weather conditions and water during extended dry periods without snow cover, one to two times per month.
Find more information in this fact sheet from Colorado State University.

Town trims holiday lighting budget; Rock Creek HOA funds residential lights
The Town has traditionally offered a Holiday Lighting display at various locations throughout the Town.
This coming holiday season, the Town will reduce display locations to focus on Town facilities and properties, and commercial centers. This will eliminate roughly eight locations in the Rock Creek neighborhood, Sagamore neighborhood, and Original Town.
We have good news, though!
The Rock Creek Homeowners Association (HOA) is going to fund lighting displays in several locations this year, including at Rock Creek Parkway and McCaslin Boulevard, Coalton Road and Indiana Street, and Rock Creek Parkway and Indiana Street. Installation will begin in early November with the lights turned on right before Thanksgiving.

Foxy new mural adorns Rock Creek Parkway underpass
The wall of the Rock Creek Parkway underpass near Purple Park was recently spruced up with a new mural. The Cultural Arts & Public Spaces (CAPS) advisory committee recommended and funded the project.
Artists Hilary Williams and Susan Mattson of Revel Painting painted a 140-foot long mural on the wall of the underpass that features a whimsical design incorporating peonies, foxes, and a pattern of shapes that references the molecular pattern of coal.
The mural is now part of the Town’s permanent public art collection. If you haven’t seen it already, we hope you’ll soon check it out!

Know Your Ride: E-Bike, Low Power Scooter, or E-Motorcycle?
Not all e-bikes are the same, and not all are legal for riders under 16. Understanding your bike’s specifications is key to knowing who can ride it and where. Since it’s not always easy to tell, check the manufacturer’s specifications before you ride.
