Construction Phase

This project includes concrete repairs and replacements throughout Superior. CMH Concrete is the contractor and will start construction mid-May with all work to be completed by early July. This project also includes installation of a bike slip ramp on 88th Street near Promenade Drive.

Town staff have been working closely with the City of Louisville, the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD), and the Redtail Ridge Developer to improve bike and pedestrian safety on 88th Street. 88th Street is a direct route for many Superior students to access Monarch PK-8 and Monarch High School in Louisville, creating a heavy bike and pedestrian movement. There have been several incidents along 88th Street and Campus Drive involving cyclists and pedestrians. Most recently a pedestrian was struck at the intersection of 88th Street and Tape Drive and last year a cyclist was injured when they hit a car in the bike lane on 88th Street.

To improve the corridor, the Town has worked with CDOT, BVSD, and Louisville to install flex post to create a protected bike lane for those users that use the corridor daily. This is an interim solution as the Town was recently awarded a $600,000 Highway Safety Improvements Program (HSIP) grant for FY 2029. The Town is actively working with CDOT to expedite the grant if possible. Improvements will include a concrete curb and expanded sidewalk/multi-use path. Any improvements will have to be permitted through CDOT and approved by both CDOT and Louisville as they own the majority of 88^th Street north of Promenade Drive.

Construction Phase

This project includes installation of new asphalt milling and application of a stabilization treatment for all alleys and unpaved roads in Original Town. Once completed the unpaved roads will have a hardened surface similar to an asphalt paved road. The contract has been awarded to American Contractors and construction is scheduled to start in mid to late May. Following stabilization treatment, the Town plans to install a chip-seal on the treated alleys, further hardening the surface and extending the life of the alleys. All work will be completed this summer.

Complete

One of four parks located in Superior Town Center, Central Park is approximately 6 acres located at the corner of Superior Drive and Central Park Way. Construction is substantially complete and the park offers an entry plaza, with a seat wall, planters, two chess or café tables, a public restroom, walkways, one medium-sized ramada, a half-court basketball court, and a divided Dog Park area offering separate enclosed areas for large and small dogs. The walkways will serve as the main entrance to the Superior Historical Cemetery.

Pre-Construction Phase

The Superior Community Center opened in the summer of 2021. The building was previously used as a Land Rover dealership. The building is approximately 15,000 square feet and contains a reception area, library space, stage area, meeting rooms, flexible-use rooms, and staff offices. The Community Center currently experiences major drainage issues in the parking lot which cause flooding of interior spaces. Additionally, there is visible cracking the masonry in various locations around the building indicating foundation issues. While the building is not structurally unsafe, these issues should be resolved to minimize further effects to the building in the future. The Town hired J&T Consulting to come up with solutions to both the structural and drainage issues. The engineering/design was completed in May 2026.

The Town approved a construction contract with McCauley Constructors on July 13, 2026. Construction is planned for August 3 - November 3, 2026. During construction the building will be closed to the public and programming will be moved to the Civic Space in Downtown Superior.

Complete

Construction is complete on the new Community Park Playground which includes new play structures, and poured-in-place safety surfacing with increased accessibility. A to Z Recreation completed the project with the grand opening to be held on May 16 form 1 - 3 pm.

Complete

The Town, with input from the Open Space Advisory Committee (OSAC), completed the Coyote Ridge Open Space Master Plan in 2023. One of the recommendations from this Plan included increased accessibility to the 182-acre Coyote Ridge Open Space area with the installation of a small gravel parking area and a Trailhead that included an ADA spur trail. The parking lot area land was conveyed to the Town from CDOT in 2025. Project was completed in March 2026 and includes an asphalt access, a crushed asphalt parking lot, wire fencing, farm gates, and a crusher fines trail that will connect with the existing St. Francis Trail.

Expanded access to high-speed fiber internet will soon be available in Superior! The Superior Town Council recently approved license agreements with fiber provider Intrepid.

Intrepid is now installing lines throughout Superior and plans to extend high-speed fiber throughout Town to include Rock Creek, Lanterns, Calmante, Rogers Farm, Original Town and Coal Creek Crossing.

What is fiber?

Fiber internet uses fiber-optic cables, which transmit data as pulses of light. By doing so, fiber offers faster speeds, more reliability, and better performance than traditional cable or DSL connections.

What can residents expect?

The telecommunications companies will coordinate with impacted property owners throughout construction, which will be completed in late 2026 or early 2027. Residents will receive flyers and door hangers from Intrepid discussing when construction will start and what to expect during construction as they approach your area. In general, the fiber lines will be installed via directional drills, but there will be some excavations within utility easements on private property and/or within Town rights-of-way. Construction around each resident's property should only last a couple days. Once complete, the only visible infrastructure that will remain are underground service boxes, similar in size to the water meters currently on a resident's property. Construction Phase

This project includes reconstruction of Indiana Street from W Torreys Peak to McCaslin Boulevard. Design is complete.  Construction has been awarded to RCD Construction with work scheduled to begin May 26, 2026. Improvements will include reconstruction of the roadway surface, concrete repairs, and new striping. During construction, there will be closures of Indiana Road near Eldorado K-8 School with detours setup accordingly. Construction is scheduled to be complete by early August.

Design Phase

The Town was awarded an Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant of $1,248,938 for the McCaslin Boulevard / Marshall Road Intersection Improvements Project.

The proposed intersection improvements include the addition of a eastbound lane on Marshall Rd at the McCaslin Blvd intersection to have 3 dedicated northbound left-turn lane off of Marshall Road and a dedicated east bound thru lane on Marshall Road into Downtown Superior to improve traffic flow and reduce traffic delays. The need for the additional left-turn lane and dedicated through lane on Marshall Road was identified as part of the Downtown Superior Traffic Studies. In addition, there will be improvements to the pedestrian crossings to improve safety for all users and improve the overall operations of the traffic signal. Design of the project is ongoing, with construction scheduled for early 2027 pending CDOT and other agency approvals.

Design Phase

Project to install a pedestrian crossing of McCaslin Boulevard north of Rock Creek parkway to connect the Vista Ridge Trail near Downtown Superior to the Mayhoffer-Singletree Trail. The Town has been awarded grant funding to complete design and construction of the at-grade crossing.  Design has started in October 2025 and construction is expected to start in fall of 2026.  Construction will be completed in phases to allow McCaslin Blvd to remain open in both directions at all times.

Pre-Construction Phase

The Superior North Pool was constructed over 30 years ago as part of Superior Metropolitan Districts 2&3 and was assumed as a Town asset in 2004. This 165,000 gallon, 8-lane community pool is a popular amenity for Superior residents offering general open swimming, swim lessons, swim team, and various aquatic programs and events each summer.

A full renovation of North Pool is recommended to effectively address the operation and safety needs, and to introduce more efficient mechanical and sanitation systems with sustainability goals in mind. While conducting this renovation, there are opportunities to update the bathhouse restrooms, showers, kitchen, storage, and guard areas to meet current demand. Barker, Rinker Seacat Architecture (BRS) was selected as the architect to complete the design phase.

Design is complete and the project has been awarded to AD Miller for construction, with construction to start in September 2026 and be completed in time for pool opening in May 2027. The pool will be available for regular use during the 2026 swim season.

Design Phase

This project includes application of an asphalt seal on Rock Creek Circle, renewing the asphalt surface. Following the slurry seal, the road will be restriped to include bike lanes in each direction. Construction is scheduled to start and be completed in the fall of 2026.

Project Complete

The Town secured CDOT grant funding to assist with the rehabilitation of the bridge and underpass in Purple Park near the McCaslin/Rock Creek Parkway intersection.  Construction is now substantially complete with a punch list of items for the contractor to complete before final completion. The underpass is now open and accessible.

July 17, 2026 Update:

Rock Creek Parkway Improvements:

Thank you for your patience and feedback this week as crews work through the final and most complex phase of the Rock Creek Parkway project.  Your input this week is already shaping improvements to detours and traffic management.

Please see below for progress made this week, what to expect next week and for a few weekend reminders as we continue working together to build a safer, smoother corridor for everyone who drives, walks, and bikes it, ahead of the 2026-2027 school year.

This weekend, please keep in mind:

• Saddlebrooke is a private community and is not a through route. Access is managed for Reliance Circle and Saddlebrooke residents only and may change based on conditions. Please do not cut through Saddlebrooke, and please respect the new “Local Traffic Only” signs going up around 88th Street.

• Rock Creek Parkway through traffic should use South Indiana Street and Coalton Road. Additional detour signs went up this week and may be updated as conditions change, so please follow posted signs.

• 88^th St. traffic should use Coalton Road, McCaslin, Rock Creek Parkway, and South Indiana Street.  Additional detour signs went up on Friday, 7/17 and may be updated as conditions change, please follow posted signs. 

• Crews are working extended weekend and evening hours to finish as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience with the added activity near the work zone.

• The closure runs through Aug. 11. August 12 is a firm reopening date, and crews are working to finish sooner.

Progress this week

• Full closure of Rock Creek Parkway and South 88th Street took effect July 15, opening the combined work zone

• Detour signage and message boards were expanded across the corridor based on early traffic patterns

• Underground utility and asphalt removal work was advanced at the 88th Street intersection

• Underground utility and drainage work and concrete work was advanced on the new roundabout at Coal Creek Drive intersection

• Utility and roadway work was advanced on the South Indiana Street intersection. 

What to expect next week

• S. 88th Street roundabout – Concrete curb and gutter and sidewalk repairs will go on throughout the week.  Road stabilization of the subgrade will take place on Monday, 7/20.

• Coal Creek Drive roundabout – New concrete curb and gutter and sidewalk will be placed as well as concrete splitter islands for the new roundabout.  Road stabilization of the subgrade at this intersection will take place on Friday, 7/24.

• S. Indiana Street – Bottom lift of pavement in the S. Indiana Street intersection to the Coal Creek Drive roundabout is scheduled to be placed Wednesday, 7/22.

• Crews continue extended and weekend hours, weather permitting – work is planned the S. 88^th St. roundabout and the Coal Creek Drive roundabout on Saturday 7/18 from 8AM – 7PM (at the latest). 

For Reliance Circle residents

Crews are reaching out directly to talk through local-only access and find the best ways to keep the households most affected by the closure informed.

July 15, 2026 Update:

Starting July 15, Rock Creek Parkway will close between South Indiana Street and Enterprise Street; this includes the closure of South 88th Street up to Shamrock Drive. The closure allows crews to complete corridor improvements before Boulder Valley School District students return to school on Aug. 12.

Emergency services will continue to have access through the construction zone. If evacuation orders are issued, residents will be able to use emergency access points on Lanterns Lane at Promenade Drive, East Weldona Way at 88th Street, and through the construction zone as needed.

• Rock Creek Parkway is closed between South Indiana Street and Enterprise Street in both directions. 
• 88th Street is closed between Shamrock Drive and Rock Creek Parkway in both directions.

Driving?

Walking or biking?  

• Cross Rock Creek Parkway at South Indiana Street or Enterprise Street. 
• Cross 88th Street at Shamrock Drive. 
• There will be no pedestrian or bike access on sidewalks in the construction zone. 

Riding the bus?  

• RTD Route 228 detours on South Indiana Street and Coalton Road. Stops at South Indiana Street, South 88th Street, and Tyler Drive are closed in both directions.

For residents on Reliance Circle, a letter will be provided by July 15 outlining more specific detour options.

• Single-lane closures have been prioritized throughout construction to limit disruption. Combining the remaining phases into one closure is the fastest path to reopening before school starts.

Pre-Construction Phase

The Superior South Pool was constructed in 2000 as part of Superior Metropolitan Districts 2 & 3 and was assumed as a Town asset in 2004. This 150,000 gallon community pool includes a zero-depth entry, small slide, and is typically set up with 1-2 lap lanes. It is very popular with Superior families and has a focus on providing aquatic experiences for younger children. The pool offers general open swimming, swim lessons, pool parties, movie nights, and a special Dog Daze event at the end of each season.

South Pool is in need of a full renovation to address operational and safety needs and to introduce more efficient mechanical and sanitation systems. While conducting this renovation, there are opportunities to update the pool amenities, bathhouse restrooms, showers, storage, and guard areas to meet current demand.

Barker, Rinker Seacat Architecture is the designer for the pool. Design is complete and the project has been awarded to AD Miller for construction, with construction to start in September 2026 and be completed in time for pool opening in May 2027. The new pool will include a renovated bath house, a larger swimming pool with new play features including a 25-foot slide and current channel, and a splash pad.

The pool will be available for regular use during the 2026 swim season.

Construction Phase

The Town Council approved a design build contract to construct the Town's first Operations and Maintenance Facility. The proposed facility will house the Public Works and Parks, Recreation, & Open Space field staff, materials, and equipment. The proposed facility will be located next to the Town's Wastewater Treatment Plant off of Honey Creek Drive.

Construction began April 2026 for the 7,400 square foot facility which will include office space, training rooms, and locker rooms for staff as well as drive through vehicle/work bays, including a wash-bay and lift bay, for equipment and operations. Construction is scheduled to be completed March 2027.
