Landfill, Recycling, and Composting Guidelines

It can be tough to keep track of the waste and recycling guidelines in Boulder County. Take a look at this easy to recycle guide(PDF, 2MB) to understand what can go into your curbside bins. You can also type the name of the item into Eco-Cycle’s A-Z Recycling Guide to quickly learn the best place to recycle or dispose of it in Boulder County.

Compost haulers and municipalities all along the Front Range of Colorado, including Waste Connections, are working with regional compost manufacturer A1 Organics to create a high-quality, clean finished compost product. Please follow the compost guidelines of food scraps and yard & plant trimmings only (including no bin liners larger than 3 gallons). Learn more about why compost guidelines have changed.

Material Re-Use Options

To reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill, consider donating your used items so that they can have a new life, or buying home improvement materials from a second-hand store! There are many facilities and organizations doing great work in the Boulder County area where you can bring your gently used items.

  • Resource Central: accepts donations of reusable building materials, tools, and other household items for resale.
  • The Town has partnered with Resource Central to provide free, weekly donation pickups on Tuesdays for excess building materials like cabinet sets, working appliances, lumber, and more! • Visit the Reuse Store and either donate your reclaimed building materials or save some money on your home renovation or DIY project.
  • If you are looking into home renovations, consider deconstruction instead of demolition. Resource Central can help you navigate the process and even help create a deconstruction plan.
