Did you know Superior is officially designated as a Bird City Colorado?
This program connects community members to bird conservation through actions to help create a bird-friendly environment. Hosting an annual World Migratory Bird Day event is part of maintaining this designation.
Bird conservation is important, considering Colorado is in the central flyway for bird migration, meaning we see millions of birds passing through and coming to our state in April and May. Birds migrate at night, and rest and feed during the daytime.
You can support the birds' migration during these times by shielding or turning off outdoor lights at night. Too much light causes collisions and disorientation in flying birds.
Additionally, planting native plants provides shelter and food sources for birds during this time of high energy use. Keeping your cats indoors and dogs on leash ensures resting birds stay safe during the day.
