During the Aug. 13 Open Space Advisory Committee (OSAC) meeting, members received a presentation from the town’s GIS staff and learned about the mapping that is being done to capture the town’s open space, recreation areas as well as locations where fire mitigation measures are taking place. Incredible tools that OSAC members will be able to use. The goats continue to do great fire mitigation work. Goat Bros will be leaving town at the end of the month, but will be back in November! The clean-up/dredging of the pond near the town’s fire station is complete. Residents may be surprised by the green color of the pond-this is normal (for about 2 yrs) after any dredging project. The town, in cooperation with the Mile High Flood District, will begin work on the pond near 88th Street in the fall. The Meadowlark Trail will be closed beginning September 6th to allow for cattle grazing. OSAC is working with town staff to request Boulder County consideration for a geo fence that would allow the Meadowlark Trail to remain open in the future. OSAC is in the process of developing a document that will name and prioritize community trails- this effort will then be used to make recommendations to the town for funding and maintenance. Our town’s volunteer leader for the raptor program (Peter Rubrecht) is stepping down. We thank him for his contributions over the last 6 years! Also, OSAC has a vacancy- please apply if interested in joining the open space team!
