The Advisory Committee for Environmental Sustainability (ACES) will be hosting information tables at two upcoming events: the 5th Annual Superior Holiday Bazaar and the Winter Festival.

Stop by to pick up free reusable cloth gift wrap (while supplies last) and enter our raffle for reusable battery kits. At the Holiday Bazaar, you can also create your own gift tags made from recycled holiday cards.

This was Every Scrap Matters debut year and we’ll be back in 2026 with more fun. While we won’t be hosting any more pop-ups this year, you can keep Every Scrap Matters alive throughout the holiday season.

If you are having gatherings with family or friends for any holidays, consider:

• Using this Guestimator tool to plan how much food to prepare so you can easily minimize food waste from having too many leftovers.
• Composting those extra food scraps or any leftovers you’re not going to eat after any large holiday meals.
• Use this Storage Guide from Save the Food to learn how to properly store ingredients and leftovers to extend their shelf life and slow how quickly they spoil.

EnergySmart rebates were in high demand this year, and available funds were claimed quickly. As you plan ahead, please be aware that the EnergySmart rebate program will shift in 2026 to better support households that need assistance most.

What’s Changing in 2026:

• Standard EnergySmart rebates will no longer be offered.
• Beginning in 2026, EnergySmart will focus on income-qualified rebates. You may be surprised by how high the income limits are in Boulder County, a family of four can earn up to $150,600 and still qualify!
• Income-qualified rebates will be updated to up to $2,000 per year, covering no more than 50% of project costs after other incentives are applied.

Leave them: Maybe you still have leaves because you know they provide some excellent benefits when left alone! Leaves provide critical food and shelter for butterflies, beetles, bees, moths, and other invertebrates. They also build healthy soils and ecosystems. Check your neighborhood rules to ensure you can leave them as-is and make sure they aren’t piled up near fences. Leaves are great to help hold moisture for plants and fertilize your yard naturally.

Give them to neighbors: If your neighbors have garden beds, they may be looking for some extra mulch to keep the soil cozy over the winter and build nutrients. The Advisory Committee for Environmental Sustainability (ACES) partnered with Eco-Cycle’s Compost department to collect all the bags of leaves from the Girl Scout collection this fall to be used on local farms as part of their circular composting program. Consider asking neighbors who garden or posting on social media to see if people want to take any of those bags off your hands!

Drop off site: Leaves in paper leaf bags can be dropped off at the Town’s Yard Waste site (2125 Honey Creek Lane) from 2 p.m. to dusk on Wednesdays or 8 a.m. to dusk on Saturdays and Sundays.

Curbside compost: If you are on the Town's waste services contract or subscribe to composting, you can use your curbside compost bin to dispose of leaves. Simply toss your leaves into the compost bin and know your leaves are off to make a valuable soil amendment.
