Welcome to our March newsletter! As the days grow longer, we’re excited to embrace the beginning of spring. It’s a great time to start thinking about gardening and get outside! Spring also brings that desire to rejuvenate our living spaces with a little cleaning and organizing. Have some old lightbulbs and batteries you’ve been collecting around the house? We can help with that! As we head towards Earth Month, we hope you’ll find an event to join and take action in our community. Declutter responsibly at Superior’s Hard-to-Recycle Event on April 12
Have a drawer full of old batteries? Some cracked or non-functioning electronics? Join us on Saturday, April 12, at the annual Household Hazardous Waste, Hard to Recycle and Mower Take Back event! Residents can drop off many items for free, including small electronics, paint, lightbulbs, gas-powered mowers and household chemicals. Some items can be recycled for a fee, including TVs, monitors, and fire extinguishers (the Town will cover 50% of the costs as funding allows). Please see a full list of accepted items on theevent flyer. Registration is required, and space is limited.

New waste carts arriving the week of March 24: Here's what you need to know!
Service with Republic Services will start on March 31, 2025. Republic will deliver selected new bins the week of March 24, and Waste Connections will pick up their bins that same week after weekly service. The Town is doing its best to ensure people don't have a gap in service with no bins or double bins for too long, but asks for everyone's patience as the transition happens. Please leave Waste Connections carts out after the pickup on March 24 and keep them empty until they are removed.
Residents will receive the Republic bins they selected in February or the default set of carts: medium (65-gallon) garbage cart, large (95-gallon) recycling cart and small (35-gallon) compost cart. No cart changes are available until May 1 to allow each resident to receive carts and service to begin. After service begins, customers can switch cart sizes up to three times per year for free to find the right service level for their household.
Neighborhood specific information:
- Downtown Superior: New carts will be delivered in front of each garage
- All other neighborhoods: New carts will be delivered curbside
Waste hauling service is provided through the Town for Original Town, Sagamore, The Ridge, Coal Creek Crossing, Downtown Superior, Calmante, Lanterns, Autrey Shores and Rogers Farm. The upcoming changes do not impact Rock Creek HOA residents, other HOAs on the Rock Creek waste contract like Saddlebrooke or the Summit, or residents in apartment complexes.

Spring into a thriving yard with free resources
As the spring begins, so do our plans to care for our lawns and gardens. Here are a few resources to help you have a great growing season.
Compost
While not all households have the ability or desire to make their own compost, the Town of Superior will be giving away a limited supply this spring! Free compost is available to Superior residents who stop by the Town’s Yard Waste Siteduring normal operating hours while supplies last. Compost is a great addition to gardens and lawns! Mostly known for enriching the soil with essential nutrients and improving overall plant health, it also helps retain moisture, enhance soil structure, and encourage beneficial microorganisms that promote a healthy soil ecosystem.

Sprinklers
Thinking about turning on your sprinklers? Remember to dial back the water flow on your system when you turn it back on if it is still at summer or fall levels. Plants typically need less water in spring because the cooler temperatures and increased moisture during spring help keep the soil moist. Additionally, plants are in a period of growth where their water needs are generally less than during the drier and hotter summer and fall months.
If you need help optimizing your system, the Town sponsors free Slow the Flow: Residential Sprinkler Evaluations. Gain knowledge about your system, get a customized watering schedule, and learn ways to improve efficiency and reduce water waste! Graduates of this program are eligible for free smart controller installations, allowing you to maintain your garden or yard from anywhere. Smart controllers connect to WiFi to gather weather data and adjust your watering schedule accordingly.

Consideringchanging up your landscaping this year? The Town partners with Resource Central on a number of programs to help get you started! We also have water efficiency rebates for things like sprinkler system controllers, rain barrels and drop equipment.

April is Earth Month; a perfect time to take steps toward protecting our planet. No matter where you are in your sustainability journey, there are resources to help. We have compiled a handy document to help plug you into local and regional programs and opportunities.
