Intrepid began installing fiber lines in Superior in mid-June, beginning in the Rock Creek neighborhood around Rock Creek Parkway. Construction is progressing quickly with Intrepid now serving residents in Town.
Intrepid has been working with Town staff, providing design drawings for staff review. In general, Intrepid is installing their network on Town property and within existing utility easements at homes. Most homes in Superior have an existing utility easement in their property that ranges from 5-10 feet in width. This is where many of your utilities like electric and telecommunications are located. The Town is allowing Intrepid to use Town property for installations where available. This includes Town property behind many homes in Rock Creek, where Intrepid is installing fiber approximately 2 feet behind the existing fence line on Town property. Unfortunately, where homes back up to other homes, the fiber lines must be installed within the existing utility easements on these properties.
Note, Intrepid must call in utility locates in accordance with Colorado 811 Law. When this happens, utility providers must locate existing utilities near and around the Intrepid work area. These locates are performed by the utility companies, not Intrepid. Existing utilities are generally marked with paint or flags as required. A general map showing the planned work areas in Superior is available on Intrepid's website. At this time, Downtown Superior is not shown on Intrepid’s service map, as the area is still under evaluation. While indications suggest they are leaning toward including Downtown Superior, a final decision has not yet been made. Town staff continue to advocate for the inclusion of Downtown Superior and have facilitated communication between Intrepid and local builders to support this effort.
