Every year in the United States, thousands of fires are tied to oily rags, flammable liquids, and garage-related hazards, leading to millions of dollars in damage.

While some fires are contained quickly, others result in total home loss. The recent fires in Superior highlight the serious danger of improperly storing oily rags, paints, solvents, and other flammable products, as well as risks linked to batteries and garage appliances.

When not handled properly, these common items can ignite suddenly through spontaneous combustion, electrical sparks, or overheating, causing severe home and property damage. Additionally, these items all require specific disposal methods, so please check with your waste service provider to ensure you’re doing so safely.
