The CAPS “Boulder Film Friends in Superior" film screenings will showcase independent films that have premiered at past Sundance Film Festivals, Cannes Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, LA Film Festival and more, creating opportunities for the community to gather and enjoy acclaimed cinema.

A film by Director / Producer Kim A. Snyder.

Don't miss the first film in this new series, The Librarians, directed & produced by Kim A. Snyder with special guest producer Janique L. Robillard who will host a post-film question and answer discussion.

The Librarians, which made its world premiere at Sundance and continued on to SXSW and Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, explores the urgent moment we find ourselves in. As an unprecedented wave of book banning is sparked in Texas, Florida, and beyond, librarians under siege join forces as unlikely defenders fighting for intellectual freedom on the front lines of democracy, flanked by concerned community members and young readers. The Librarians is a chilling cautionary tale and rallying cry for freedom – told through the personal experiences of librarians under siege and the everyday patriots who join their ranks in defense of the books.

March 27 - Prime Minister

A film by Lindsay Utz and Michelle Walshe

In August 2017, 37-year-old Jacinda Ardern became New Zealand’s opposition leader just weeks before a national election, and then two months later became Prime Minister.  Soon after she learned she was pregnant, becoming only the second world leader to give birth while in office. Ardern’s compassionate leadership has drawn global attention, even as she faced skepticism at home and a succession of crises—the Christchurch massacre, pandemic lockdowns, and violent protests fueled by disinformation.

PRIME MINISTER follows Ardern over seven transformative years, offering unprecedented access through intimate home footage shot by her husband and revealing interviews recorded during her time in power. The film captures her meteoric rise, shocking resignation in 2023, and her continued fight against fear and falsehood in politics. As global trust in democracy wavers, PRIME MINISTER asks: what would the world look like with more leaders like Jacinda Ardern?

April 24 - Chasing Childhood

Chasing Childhood is a feature length documentary that explores how free play and independence have all but disappeared from kids’ lives, supplanted by relentless perfectionism leading to record rates of anxiety and depression, a situation now compounded by the pandemic.  Free play, unsupervised by adults, is critical for developing essential life skills: grit, independence, and resourcefulness. Many young adults may appear more accomplished on paper, but by the time they get to college they are emotionally struggling and lacking the tools needed to live independently.

In affluent Wilton, CT, we meet Rob and Genevieve Eason, who imagined the perfect life they could give their child, Savannah, if they just did everything right. When Savannah is ultimately hospitalized for depression in her senior year of high school, they are forced to reevaluate not only their own values but the culture at large. Recognizing the pervasiveness of her daughter’s struggle, Genevieve Eason becomes a passionate grassroots activist who fights to reframe society’s definition of success and to take back childhood.

Meanwhile, in the working-class district of Patchogue, NY, school superintendent Dr. Michael Hynes struggles to combat epidemic behavioral issues and reduce the level of anxiety in his schools. Both Wilton and Patchogue turn to Lenore Skenazy, founder of the Free Range Kids movement, to bring “Let Grow,” a child-driven independence project to their schools. Skenazy takes us inside a New York City public middle school where we witness these projects in action as kids prove they are capable beyond what they ever imagined.

The film explores how and why helicopter parenting became the norm in many communities across the United States. The film features experts and advocates in the area of free play including Julie Lythcott-Haims, former Stanford Dean and author of How to Raise an Adult, and Peter Gray, biological psychologist.
