The Town of Superior has received a $225,000 grant from DOLA (Department of Local Affairs) to support Building Together, a new program which aims to encourage the development of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) in Superior. ADUs are housing units integrated within a single unit dwelling or located in a detached accessory building located on the same lot as a single dwelling. Sometimes referred to as granny-flats or backyard cottages, ADUs can help provide housing for family members, people employed locally, seniors, and caregivers.
Through Building Together, the Town will work with consultants to develop pre-approved ADU design plans, offer a toolkit to provide technical assistance to homeowners converting existing space or building ADUs, and provide financial support such as fee waivers, reductions, or rebates for permitting and related costs. The program is designed to make it easier and more affordable for Superior residents to add ADUs to their properties.
Currently, Building Together is in the procurement phase in which the Town is seeking to hire consultants to help develop the different aspects of the program. Roll out of the pre-approved plans, toolkit, and financial assistance programs is anticipated in late fall or early winter 2026. Stay tuned to Town communications and this webpage for project updates.
