In the November Cultural Arts and Public Spaces (CAPS) Committee meeting, the committee welcomed a number of high school students participating in public meetings as part of a civics project. The committee heard updates from staff on an upgrade to the McCaslin tunnel lighting circuit, as well as vandalism of the Purple Park prairie dog that caused extensive damage. The committee then briefly reviewed progress from the previous month, including: fabrication of the artwork label bases, a meeting with the selected Marshall Fire Remembrance contractor, and November's stained glass workshops. The committee then held a lengthy discussion on the planned 2026 mural festival, establishing priorities in locations and activities, to help develop a cost estimate for the festival. Finally, the committee planned a series of film screenings in the Civic Space to build engagement around the upcoming Sundance Film Festival, and updated and approved the 2026 work plan accordingly.

The Superior Historical Commission (SHC) Meeting held its monthly meeting on November 21st. All members were present. Heather Cracraft served as Council representation. There was no public comment. There were two guest speakers: Mary Peebles from the NSDAR Indian Peaks Chapter who discussed hopeful collaboration between SHC and NSDAR and Matthew Placzek who presented two designs for the Miners memorial bronze statue. The Commission approved of further design work on the design and are anticipating work to begin on the sculpture in December.
Discussion Items focused on the completion of the 2026 Annual Work Plan, of which a vote will be held in the December SHC for approval of such. Details are being ironed out for the Dec. 19 SHC meeting, including a subsequent work session and holiday luncheon immediately preceding the shortened meeting. There was terrific turnout for both of the museums during the Nov. 1 open museum day and the cemetery was visited by 20 individuals during its open hours. Staff updates included details on the November budget report and the completion of the privy painting.
