May 8
The May ACES meeting included a discussion of the dinner with the Town Council and recommendations for actions. Council liaison Jenn Kaaoush shared feedback from Council received from Rock Creek HOA residents on the Town waste contract and incorporation in 2028. ACES discussed upcoming events and coverage, engagement strategies with Town residents, as well as recommendations for the 2026 sustainability budget.
May 12
During Monday’s Town Council meeting, the Council: held a joint dinner with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PARC); heard a presentation and held a discussion with representatives from JBR Superior Holdings regarding a concept plan for development of the commercial properties on Lots 2 and 3 of Block 7 in Downtown Superior (northeast corner of Main Street and Superior Drive); heard a presentation and held a discussion with Town staff and representatives from Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture regarding the North and South Pool public engagement summary and preliminary cost estimates for North Pool; made a proclamation for Memorial Day; held a first reading of a proposed ordinance amending Section 8-1-70 of the Superior Municipal Code regarding authority to tow vehicles; approved a construction contract with Brannan Sand and Gravel Company, LLC for the Rock Creek Parkway and McCaslin Intersection Improvements Project; approved a contract with Goat Brothers for 2025 FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program-funded goat grazing; approved an Economic Development Program grant in the amount of $75,000 and performance-based sales tax rebate of $25,000; approved the Resolution of Substantial Compliance for 1599 S 76th Street in compliance with the Municipal Annexation Act of 1965, C.R.S. § 31-12-101, et seq. and the Superior Municipal Code; and authorized the town attorney to consent to any effort to consolidate litigation with the Kupfner versus Friedbergs litigation.
May 14
During the OSAC May 14 meeting, a presentation on the 2024 Harney Lastoka Open Space Goat Impact Summary was provided from the Butterfly Pavilion Community Habitats Coordinator, Madeline Barr. The findings include the types of native and introduced plant coverage as well as plants considered noxious in the state of Colorado. The goats are coming back this summer! Town Staff will update the calendar soon with dates for goat experience opportunities. OSAC discussed steps to implement the Coyote Ridge Open Space Management Plan. OSAC is planning an effort to begin naming the trails within the town. The committee talked about OSAC's position on Town 15. For 10+ years, the committee has advocated that this town-owned parcel be re-zoned as open space natural. The June 9 Town Council agenda includes rezoning the parcel as open space recreational. OSAC members will attend the June 3rd Planning Commission meeting and the June 9 Town Council meeting to share OSAC's perspective. OSAC is excited to host the Town of Superior’s Inaugural World Migratory Bird Day on May 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at Purple Park. National Trails Day is coming up on June 7 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Coalton Trailhead.
May 16
The Superior Historical Commission (SHC) Meeting held its monthly meeting on May 16. All members were present except for Jill Roberts. Mayor Pro Tem served as the Council Liaison. There was public comment from Nancy Thomas, who expressed an interest in working with the Historical Commission due to her past experience in Milwaukee. A guest presentation by Laurie Rugenstein from the Breathing Healing Bus covered logistics and costs for bringing the Breathing Healing Bus as part of the Fall Program in October, which would coincide with a presentation from Right Relations Boulder. Estimated costs for hosting the Breathing Healing Bus would total $1,475. General updates included completed correspondence, the Marshall Fire Remembrance Submitted, and media categorization. The SHC discussed several donations, including items for Asti Park and a possible public art crane donated by a Superior resident. They also reviewed past events such as the open museum day, historic walk, and Heritage Roundtable.
Work plan discussion items focused on collection management, QR code collaborations with CAPS, and upcoming publications like the Asti trifold and reprinting/ revising the Lost Superior book. The group considered budget items to discuss for the 2026 Town Council dinner, trail naming partnerships with OSAC, and Fall programming with Right Relations Boulder. Additional updates included preparations for upcoming events, such as the July 4 parade and the open museum day on June 6. Staff updates included details about the timeline and estimated costs associated with the miner memorial bronze statue.
