Town Council Meeting

During Monday’s Town Council meeting, the council: conducted Superior Youth Leadership Council (SYLC) interviews; heard a presentation and held a discussion regarding the physical security assessment of Town buildings and offices; made a proclamation for outgoing SYLC members; approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder for the Town’s participation in the 2026 coordinated election; approved advisory committee appointments; approved an Alcohol in Public Places Permit; approved reappointments to SYLC; approved a resolution in support of Senate Bill 4505, a bill to require the U.S. Postal Service to designate ZIP codes for certain communities, including Superior; approved a design-build contract with Altitude Recreation Inc. for the Pirate Park Playground Renovation Project; and held a public hearing and first reading of a proposed ordinance to adopt by reference the 2024 Edition of the International Fire Code.

Open Space Advisory Committee Meeting

Aug. 12

Open Space Advisory Committee meeting focused on open space planning, Coyote Ridge trail improvements, wildlife and prairie dog management, and wildfire mitigation-habitat conservation balance. The Open Space Master Plan draft is scheduled for October review. Budget requests for a full-time open space ranger, Industrial Mine Loop Trail planning, and project implementation are in the draft 2027 budget being considered by council. BOCO Youth Corps completed extensive summer maintenance, including weed removal, trail repairs, barbwire fence removal, and trash cleanup. Consultants from Pointe Strategies presented draft recommendations for Coyote Ridge trail maintenance and improvement. OSAC also reviewed an outline for an updated and expanded prairie dog management plan on both private and public properties. Draft management goals will be reviewed in October. OSAC, following consultation with PARC, approved multi-use trail etiquette and speed-limit signage recommendations. Ideas for better balancing habitat conservation with fire mitigation mowing and grazing activities will be the subject of a future work session. Discussion topics for a joint meeting with Louisville’s Open Space Advisory Board in September were decided upon. Wildlife monitoring reported 44 raptor observations in July. Trail counters recorded approximately 4,200 visits to Coyote Ridge Open Space during 14 weeks ending Aug. 5.

Finance Committee Meeting

Aug. 14

During Friday’s Finance Committee meeting, the members (1) reviewed second-quarter preliminary financial report and June 2026 income statement and (2) discussed 2027 budget calendar and process.
