From Plastic Free July to buying local produce at one of our nearby farms or farmers’ markets, there are countless ways to live more sustainably this season.

Town adopts Drought Mitigation Plan
Water conservation continues to be both a priority for the Town and a topic of conversation in our community. Though Superior is not technically in a drought and there are no local water restrictions, Town Council adopted a Drought Mitigation Plan, and the Town is actively seeking opportunities to increase water saving and encourage residents and businesses to do the same. This document identifies conditions that define a drought, the Town’s response as droughts grow in severity or impact, and a framework for communicating that response.
The Drought Mitigation Plan is intended to:
- Provide a comprehensive yet flexible framework to guide Town staff on drought mitigation and monitoring efforts, as well as procedures to follow for declaring a drought and implementing the drought response.
- Preserve essential public services during any level of drought severity from mild to critical emergency conditions.
- Minimize adverse drought-related impacts on public health and safety, economic activity, environmental resources, and individual lifestyles during a drought event.
- Support effective communication of drought awareness and response information to water customers.
- Provides an efficient means to monitor and improve its effectiveness over time.
- Identify an appropriate level of response based on drought severity.

Town awarded climate-focused state grant!
We are proud to share that Superior has been awarded a Local IMPACT Accelerator grant from the Colorado Energy Office! The Local Implementation, Mitigation, and Policy Action (Local IMPACT) Accelerator Grant supports local governments with policy adoption to bolster local resilience.
After a competitive process, Superior has been awarded over $1 million for Transportation Demand Management (TDM)! The Town will explore adopting a proactive TDM ordinance for new development to reduce traffic and emissions in our community. Project funds will pilot TDM strategies to ensure a flexible and effective pathway for future developer implementation. These dedicated funds enable us to move forward with these improvements without additional impact on the local budget.
We have a strong commitment to building sustainable community with a robust alternative transportation network, and we believe that this funding will give us the opportunity to achieve our goals. This award serves as a benchmark for our progress, and we’re just getting started. We look forward to building on this success as we continue to implement forward-thinking solutions for our growing community.

Take the Plastic Free July pledge
Take the pledge this and go plastic-free this July! Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people reduce plastic waste through small, everyday choices to be a part of the solution to plastic pollution. Over 430 million tons of plastic are produced globally each year, and most of it is designed to be used once and then thrown in the trash. The plastics that can and do get recycled only make up about 5% in the United States.
Choosing to refuse single-use plastics often leads to discovering great alternatives that can become new habits. Participants who take the pledge will receive resources and ideas in weekly emails to help you, your workplace, schools, and communities reduce single-use plastic. A great way to reduce your plastic footprint is by visiting food co-ops & refill stores, which offer bulk and refilling containers instead of buying new items in plastic. Take a look at:
