CAPS helps Superior residents build community with the Neighborhood Sponsorship Program
Do you want to foster community with your neighbors and make Superior an even better place to call home? We want to help you make it happen!
The Town and the Cultural Arts & Public Spaces (CAPS) Advisory Committee offers the Neighborhood Sponsorship Program to provide funding for community engagement initiatives.
With three types of sponsorships available, there's an opportunity for everyone to make a difference. You could coordinate a social gathering, host a local concert or outdoor movie, or plan a neighborhood improvement project such as planting, weeding, or adding a bench.
- Neighborhood Block Party Support Sponsorships: Up to $200
- Neighborhood Experience Sponsorships: Up to $300
- Neighborhood Project Sponsorships: Up to $500

Branch out with a Superior celebration this Arbor Day
Join us in celebrating the 18th anniversary of Superior's Tree City USA designation by going back to our roots! This year’s Arbor Day celebration, taking place April 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at Purple Park (1310 S. Pitkin Ave.), will focus on green education and hands-on volunteer opportunities. Purposeful and fun education will be offered throughout, including planting trees around the park while learning tips and tricks specific to our area.

Celebrate the start of spring in the great outdoors with Open Space Programs
Saturdays, 10 a.m. to noon
If you love art and nature, join our Open Space Ranger, Phary Om, for a Nature Journaling workshop! With a background in art education, Phary will guide you through the basics of nature journaling. You'll get the chance to explore outdoors, share ideas, connect with others, and create your very own nature journal. Register below to secure your spot!

Are you interested in birdwatching but feel a bit overwhelmed by those tiny, similar-looking birds? Don’t worry! Join naturalist Dave Sutherland for a fun and friendly introduction to the amazing world of birds. He’ll share tips on how to spot and identify them, whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience. Feel free to bring along your binoculars and any bird guides you may have. Everyone is welcome, and we especially love having beginners join us! Just remember to register in advance.

Are you interested in becoming an eco-ranger in your community? Join us to learn about the diverse wildlife in your backyard and how to assist in wildlife emergencies. The program includes one hour of educational talks about common backyard wildlife, followed by an hour dedicated to a hands-on project related to the topic. Instructor Lia Arntsen from Greenwood Wildlife will teach you everything you need to know to make a positive impact on our local wildlife! Register for upcoming sessions below.

We’ll share tips on how to find these amazing birds, what tools you'll need, and how to enjoy watching them in the wild responsibly. This fun and free program is perfect for all ages and includes a half-mile walk. Don’t forget to register in advance. We can’t wait to see you there!

Use your garden to create a more fire-defensible home with a Fire-wise Gardening workshop
Protect your home from wildfire by using native plants and smart design. Register for this free workshop from Friends of Coal Creek, happening on April 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Louisville Rec Center Brooks Room (900 West Via Appia Way, Louisville), at the Fire-wise Gardening workshop webpage.
Plant expert and landscape designer Curtis Manning, owner of Lafayette-based MeadowPro, explains which low-flammability native plants are best to use in the landscape and the best planting strategies to increase your home’s defensibility from wildfire. Attendees will receive a fire-wise planting template for use at their homes.
Bonus: All attendees will be entered into a random drawing for five 50-plant kits that use the fire-wise planting template.

Expand your horizons with Superior Arts and History
Historical Commission Annual Historic Walk
Are you interested in experiencing Superior as it was 100 years ago and enjoying a different perspective on the Town and its unique past? The Superior Historical Commission is hosting the annual Historic Walk to the Industrial Mine site on May 3 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The walk will begin at Grasso Park then stop at two important historical sites: the former railroad depot and the Industrial Mine and Mine Camp. Participants should plan on walking at least 2 miles and should wear appropriate shoes and clothing for the terrain and weather. Be sure to bring your own hydration - we can't wait to see you there!
