Mockup of the mural going under Rock Creek Parkway.

A new mural is coming to the Rock Creek Parkway underpass tunnel! This 140-foot mural will be painted onto the concrete wall by artists Hilary Williams and Susan Mattson of Revel Painting.

Painting will begin on Sept. 22, and continue throughout the week. This mural will be a whimsical design incorporating peonies, fox, and a shape pattern that references the molecular pattern of coal.

Residents can participate in the painting process by signing up for painting session today! Session #1 will be on Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon, and session #2 will be the same day from 1 to 4 p.m. Spots are limited. Please wear painting clothes and bring water.

After the mural is complete, it will be sprayed with a clear coat of graffiti guard to protect against vandalism.

This new public art piece is part of the Cultural Arts and Public Spaces (CAPS) Committee's ARTery project. The ARTery will be an art path throughout Town with sculptures, murals and interactive art meant to encourage walking, biking and creative wayfinding.

The ARTery path will eventually stretch for 5 miles from Original Town through Downtown Superior and Rock Creek to the vicinity of Eldorado PK-8.
