Update: Indiana Street construction kicks off June 8

Indiana Street from West Torreys Peak Drive through Mount Sopris Way will be closed starting Monday, June 8, as phase one of the Indiana Street reconstruction project begins.

The project includes full reconstruction of the roadway, curb and gutter improvements, upgraded sidewalks, and enhanced bike and pedestrian facilities.

During this closure, which is expected to last through July 3, please be aware that:

  • The Wildflower Park entrance off Indiana Street will be closed. Park users may park on available side streets with trail access to Wildflower Park available off West Torreys Peak Drive.
  • The northern-most entrance to Eldorado PK-8 School will be closed, with the southern-most entrance remaining open.

The second phase of the Indiana Street reconstruction project will begin on July 6, closing Indiana Street south of Mount Sopris Way to McCaslin Boulevard.

Construction will conclude before the start of the 2026/27 school year, so school traffic will not be affected. During this project, temporary road closures and detour routes will continue to be set up as needed, along with periodic sidewalk closures.

Original Town alley and roadway stabilization project began on June 1

Construction on the Alley and Roadway stabilization project in Original Town began on June 1 and will run through early July. During construction, each alley will be closed for 1-2 days during the treatment process.

The project will stabilize all unpaved roads in Original Town, including the alleys, 5th Avenue, and portions of West Charles and West William streets.

The work includes leveling and compacting the existing surfaces, placing 3 inches of new millings, applying a stabilization treatment and then compacting the new millings with a wet roller. This work results in a hardened asphalt-like surface.

Following treatment, the Town will apply a chip seal to the surface in late July or August, a treatment generally applied to roads to improve longevity. Once complete, the roads will have a hard surface that eliminates dust and can be plowed, with a useful life of 5 to 7 years.
