The Superior Historical Museum at 110 West Maple St. opened its doors to the public in November 2008.
The Mine Camp House/Museum was a rehabilitated, nearly 600-square-foot, wood-framed, one-story structure with an added full basement atop a concrete foundation. Originally built around 1910, the four-room interior walls were of lath and 3-coat plaster construction. Other interior highlights included bead board wains coating in the kitchen and hardwood flooring throughout.
A rehabilitated Mine Camp House served as the museum until it was destroyed in the 2021 Marshall Fire.
The Town soon explored options for recreating the building as closely as possibly to its pre-loss state, with an added focus on sustainability. The Town retained the professional design services of Architectural Workshop, LLC in February 2023 with the goal of recreating the building as closely as possible to its pre-loss state. Architectural Workshop and Town Staff worked closely with the Superior Historical Commission to ensure this goal was met in the completed design and construction documents. The construction component went out to bid in summer 2023 and Schneider Building Company was hired as the builder.
Rebuilding began in November 2023, and once started the old museum began to quickly look like its old self.
A big thanks goes out to the Historical Commission, Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department and Town Board for making sure this project got off the ground and seen through. Thanks to them and our amazing community members, we'll have our beloved museum back by late 2024.
