Superior Youth Leadership Council Meeting

June 3

At the June SYLC meeting, SYLC reviewed their Parents Night Out event that happened in April, stating that it went well despite lack of attendance from participants. SYLC reviewed the 4th of July Celebration volunteer and booth needs and created a Work Group to plan for the event. SYLC confirmed participants who would like to volunteer at National Trails Day this upcoming Saturday, June 6. SYLC then confirmed a location for their Senior Send Off and thought of ways to recruit new SYLC members when the seniors leave.

Project Updates

Rock Creek Parkway Construction

The south half of Rock Creek Parkway between S. Indiana St. to S. 88th St. remains closed for roadway reconstruction. This closure is expected to continue until Thursday, 6/11. Concrete sidewalks on the south half of Rock Creek Parkway and Coal Creek Drive are being moved and new roadway medians placed for the new roundabout. Two-way traffic is open on the north half of the road, cyclists are requested to utilize the sidewalk through the work zone.  Please note the following traffic and RTD impacts during this phase of construction:

  • No through vehicle traffic or bike/pedestrian crossing will be permitted at Coal Creek Drive.
  • No through vehicle traffic will be permitted at S Indiana St.; Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to cross on the West side of the S Indiana St. intersection.
  • 228 Southbound stops on Rock Creek Parkway at Pitkin Ave, S. Indiana St, and S. 88th St. are closed.

Beginning Thursday, 6/11, the north half of Rock Creek Parkway between S. Indiana St. and S. 88th St. will be closed for roadway reconstruction for an estimated 3 weeks.  Two-way traffic will be open on the south half of the road, cyclists will still be requested to utilize the sidewalk through the work zone.  Please note the following traffic and RTD impacts for that closure:

  • No through vehicle traffic or bike/pedestrian crossing will be permitted at Coal Creek Drive.
  • No through vehicle traffic will be permitted at S Indiana St.; Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to cross on the West side of the S Indiana St. intersection.
  • 228 Northbound stops on Rock Creek Parkway at S. Indiana St and S. 88th St. will be closed.

The Town requests that only local traffic use Rock Creek Parkway during construction. All other traffic is encouraged to use Coalton Road and McCaslin Blvd. as detour routes while closures are in effect.  Traffic speeds are reduced to 25 MPH and fines doubled in construction zones. For more information of roadway closures for Town capital improvement projects with approximate closure dates, please visit the Town Project website and the Town MAPS website.  We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete these roadway improvements and work to reopen the road as quickly as possible.  For questions, please contact Christine Katz at christinek@superiorcolorado.gov.

Indiana Street Project

Construction continues on the town-wide concrete repairs. Crews are working in residential areas primarily in the Rock Creek neighborhood. During construction residents can expect temporary lane and sidewalk closures. Crews will move fast, working on each repair area approximately 1-2 days.

Concrete Work

Construction was delayed on Indiana Street as the contractor wrapped up other projects. Therefore, construction will start on the Indiana Street reconstruction project on Monday. This project includes full reconstruction of the roadway, curb and gutter improvements, upgraded sidewalks, and enhanced bike and pedestrian facilities from N. Torreys Peak to McCaslin Boulevard. Beginning this week, Indiana Street will be closed from N. Torreys Peak through Mt. Sopris Way, including closure of the Wildflower Park parking lot, with detour routes setup accordingly. Both the Indiana Street and N. Torreys Peak, and Indiana Street and Mt. Sopris Way intersections will be closed to traffic. This phase of construction is scheduled to last approximately 4 weeks before crews move south to complete phase 2 which includes Indiana Street from Mt. Sopris Way to McCaslin Boulevard. All construction will be completed before school starts in August.

Alley Stabilization Project

The Original Town alley and roadway stabilization project is ongoing, with millings applied to several alleys last week. During this week, milling application and grading will continue, with stabilization treatment to be applied following the spreading of all millings. During construction, each alley and roadway will be closed for 1-2 days while the millings are applied, graded, and treated. During this time no traffic will be allowed on the roadway.
