Town of Superior update on recent power outages

Superior residents, please be aware that Xcel is beginning the underground cable replacement work today, June 26. Through an emergency work order, Xcel will be installing a new 6-inch underground electric line from the transformer near Superior’s Wastewater Treatment Plant on Honey Creek Lane, continuing up to Rock Creek Parkway. During construction, there will be a temporary lane closure on Honey Creek Lane.

The work could take up to a week to complete, as this area has many existing utilities. There will likely be Xcel crews and subcontractors working along Honey Creek Lane through the weekend.

Town staff have been working closely with Xcel on the recent power outages affecting Superior.

Below, you'll find an update from Xcel that includes potential next steps. Town staff will continue to work closely with Xcel while they look to address these issues.

Xcel has confirmed that these outages are associated with unforeseen line failures on the underground power lines in Northern Rock Creek.
Xcel crews have completed repairs on the damaged lines and are planning on replacing the lines.
Xcel has not provided a timeline for replacement and has informed the Town that the replacement will take longer since the lines are underground and they must procure the required equipment. Xcel crews are still scheduling the repair date based off equipment procurement.
Xcel does not expect these outages to continue in the meantime.
While Town staff are working closely with Xcel, the Town cannot control these outages and does not have any information about when they occur.

The Town encourages residents to contact Xcel directly with questions about outages and to report them on the Xcel Energy website.
