November 13, 2018:

The Town has been informed by the Highlands Natural Resources Corporation that they are withdrawing all applications for the Superior site including drilling and spacing permits.  The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) has also been notified, and their website will soon reflect this withdrawal.  The Town will post additional information as it becomes available on our website.

November 9, 2018:

The Town has received notification from the State of Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) regarding an application submitted by Highlands Natural Resources Corporation to authorize four (4) well pads and up to 31 horizontal wells in Jefferson County across approximately 2,560 acres.  There is a small undeveloped portion of the Town of Superior in Jefferson County north and east of the intersection of McCaslin Boulevard and Hwy. 128 where one (1) well facility could potentially be installed.  The Town is closely evaluating the application materials and has initiated the formal consultation process with Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) as well as the comment and review process with COGCC to express concerns and issues the Town has with the application.

As this process progresses, the Town will post information on this webpage updating citizens about the status of the application, as well as additional resources as they become available.  Although the State regulates oil and gas development, the Town is actively participating in this process to help ensure the best possible outcome for our community.  Please visit this page in the future for updates regarding the application and the latest information from the Town.

In addition to the Town participating in the review process, the COGCC is also seeking public comment on the application for drilling permits across this vast area.  Please use the link below to provide feedback to the COGCC regarding the facility permit for the Superior location specifically.  The deadline for public comment is December 5, 2018.  The community is encouraged to provide feedback on this application.
